上海中医药大学成立于1956年，是新中国诞生后国家首批建立的中医药高等院校之一，教学科研成就卓越，学科排名全国领先，是重点建设的上海市地方高水平大学，教育部“双一流”建设高校。

       2016年4月，学校整合中医文献研究所、中医药文化研究与传播中心、中医药国际化发展研究中心、中医方证信息研究中心、《中医药文化》杂志、医学史、医古文、各家学说等高水平学术资源，在全国率先组建成立科技人文研究院。研究院名师荟萃、名医辈出，拥有全国名中医、上海市名中医、上海市文史馆馆员、全国高等院校教学名师、全国中医药高等学校教学名师、上海市高等学校教学名师，承担了众多国家级、省部级人文社科及医学研究项目。

       中医药学是中国古代科学的瑰宝，也是打开中华文明宝库的钥匙。开展中医药文化传承发展研究，是传统文化“创造性转化、创新性发展”战略的重要组成部分。研究院面向人文社科领域，着力传承中华文化基因，汲取中医智慧，弘扬中医精神；拓展对外交流，提升国际影响，不断增强文化自觉与自信，激发文化生机与活力，成为引领中医药科技人文传承发展的标杆。

Institute of Science, Technology and Humanities of SHUTCM

Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in 1956, which is one of the first TCM colleges and universities after the birth of PRC. It has been making great achievements in both teachings and scientific researches, and the main subjects keep leading position in China. SHUTCM is a local high-level university in Shanghai, a “World-class Universities and First-class Disciplines” (“Double-First Class”) university assessed by Ministry of Education.

The Institute of TCM Literature, the Centre for Research and Spread of Chinese Medical Culture, the Centre for Globalization of TCM, Formula and Pattern Information Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Chinese Medicine Culture Journal, the Teaching and Research Section of Medical History, the Teaching and Research Section of Ancient Medical Literature, the Teaching and Research Section of Various Theories of TCM, and other academic institutions were merged into the Institute of Science, Technology and Humanities of SHUTCM in April, 2016, which was the first one of this kind. The institute is glorious for so many outstanding members with honorary titles such as “National Famous TCM Practitioners” “Famous TCM Practitioners at Shanghai” “National Famous Teachers of Colleges and Universities” “National Famous Teachers of Colleges and Universities of TCM” “Famous Teachers of Colleges and Universities at Shanghai”. The institute has undertaken a great number of national/ provincial/ministerial projects of humanities and social sciences, and medicine.

TCM is the treasure of ancient Chinese science and the key to open the treasury of Chinese civilization. The research of the inheritance and development of TCM culture is a very important part of the strategy of “Creative transformation and innovative development”. In the field of humanities and social sciences, the institute is oriented to the inheriting of Chinese culture, assimilating TCM wisdom, propagating TCM spirit, expanding international cooperation, promoting global influence, keeping booming in cultural awareness and confidence, inspiring cultural vitality, and being a beacon of inheritance and development of science, technology and humanities in TCM.
